Calgary – Fish Creek Park

The Bow River winds through Calgary and joining it is the Elbow River near downtown and site of Fort Calgary.  Also a few creeks wind through the city including Fish Creek. The Park is awesome – a true country pleasure for anyone who wants to escape and enjoy peace regardless of where you live in the city.

When we lived very near a part of Fish Creek Park I visited the park daily to ride my bike.  It is down in the flats of the rivers and kept in its’ natural state.  Trees and foliage mute the sounds of traffic. Hills often keep the site of buildings and roads from view.  Riding my bike I could see an old ranch house and interpretation center, beavers building their dams or deer grazing. On the west side, outside the city there are stables and horseback riding is available.

This is the park I could hear coyotes in winter, right in the middle of the city. It was always a gathering for families and friends with swimming, canoeing, barbecue pits offered for our sunshine pleasure.

Fish Creek park holds many memories in my heart.

A picture of the winding bike or hiking paths that run throughout the city.

One of my sons had his kindergarten ceremonies in the park.  He was always difficult and the teacher is trying to make him sit – which he hated doing with a passion.  He was always ten miles ahead of himself.

He was also married in this phenomenal setting.  These pictures were done by Malibu Dreams Photography. My little niece is wandering through the grass and foliage, more fascinating than the ceremony obviously.
